How do I clean vomit from my new carpet?

Cleaning, Stains & Carpet Maintenance · Historic BCC Q&A archive

For vomit on carpet: remove solids promptly without rubbing. Blot the affected area gently with a clean white cloth to absorb moisture, working from the outside edge toward the centre. A mild detergent solution (a few drops of neutral dishwashing liquid in cool to lukewarm water) applied with a clean cloth can be used, blotting rather than scrubbing; rinse with clean water and blot dry. Speed drying with a fan helps. Once dry, baking soda can be tried to help with odour, then vacuum. Always follow the fibre or manufacturer care instructions and seek professional advice for valuable wool or woven carpets.
